Quick answer: Forest Pine is Sweetwick's fresh, woody candle, with notes of Douglas fir, cedar bark and crisp cold air. It burns on a wooden wick soaked in food-grade avocado oil, in a beeswax and coconut oil blend. It costs $22 for 6 oz, burns for 40–50 hours and is hand-poured in Cleveland, Ohio.
Why a wooden wick suits a woody scent
A wooden wick crackles softly as it burns, a bit like a small fireplace, and that sound goes naturally with a forest scent. Before it goes into the candle, we soak each wick in avocado oil. This helps it light more reliably and draw wax more evenly than a dry wooden wick. More on why we do it.
Wooden wick vs. cotton wick
- Sound: wood crackles, while cotton is silent.
- Flame: wood gives a wider, lower flame. Cotton gives a taller, narrower one.
- Trimming: wood should be trimmed to 1/8 inch, and cotton to 1/4 inch.
- Lighting: hold the flame along the full width of a wooden wick for 10–15 seconds.
What "premium" should mean in a wooden wick candle
Wooden wicks are common now. What varies is everything around them:
- The wax: ours is beeswax and coconut oil, with no paraffin or soy.
- The wick: treated in avocado oil rather than left untreated.
- The fragrance: phthalate-free, with ingredients fully listed.
- The jar: reusable amber glass.
Other fresh options
- Lavender: lavender and chamomile over a cedarwood base. Softer, with a woody finish.
- Eucalyptus Spearmint: fresh and cooling rather than woody.
- Fresh Linen: clean cotton and soft musk.
Forest Pine and Lavender also burn well together, for what we call a forest-and-field pairing.
