About Our Candles

What makes Sweetwick different from other candles?

Several things — but the most distinctive is our wick. Sweetwick uses a wooden wick that is soaked in avocado oil before it goes into the candle. To our knowledge, we are one of the very few candle makers in America doing this, if not the only one. The avocado oil soak means the wick lights more reliably, burns more consistently, and gives the candle its signature gentle crackling sound — like a small fireplace. Combined with a beeswax and coconut wax base (no paraffin), phthalate-free fragrance, and no dyes or colorants, Sweetwick is built from the ground up to be better. Why is there a crackling sound when my candle burns?

That is the wooden wick. It is completely normal and entirely intentional. As the wood burns, it produces a soft, rhythmic crackling — similar to a fireplace. Many customers say it is one of their favorite things about Sweetwick. It adds an ambient quality to the experience that a cotton wick simply cannot replicate.

How do I care for a wooden wick?

A few key differences from cotton wicks:

Trim to 1/8 inch (3mm) before each burn — shorter than the cotton wick standard
When lighting, hold the flame along the full width of the wick (not just the tip) for 10–15 seconds
If the flame seems weak or goes out, the wick tip likely needs trimming — remove the charred wood and relight
The crackling sound is normal and desirable

What is Sweetwick's wax made of?

A blend of pure beeswax and coconut wax. We never use paraffin, petroleum-based waxes, soy wax, or synthetic additives. See the full ingredients page.

Are your candles non-toxic?

Yes. We use phthalate-free fragrance oils evaluated against IFRA safety standards, wooden wicks with no metal core, and no colorants, dyes, or UV inhibitors. The avocado oil on the wick is food-grade. Everything in a Sweetwick candle is something we are comfortable having in our own homes.

How long do your candles burn?

Each Sweetwick candle has an estimated burn time of 35–45 hours. Actual burn time depends on wick maintenance and burn session length. See our Candle Care guide to get the most out of every candle.

Are your candles vegan?

Our candles contain beeswax, which is animal-derived, so they are not vegan. Our beeswax comes from apiaries committed to sustainable, bee-friendly practices.

How strong will the scent be?

Our beeswax and coconut blend carries fragrance well — you will notice the scent both cold and when burning. We calibrate each fragrance to fill a room without overwhelming it. A smaller room will amplify the effect.

Are the jars reusable?

Yes — intentionally. When the candle is finished, clean the jar with hot soapy water and repurpose it as a vase, plant pot, desk organizer, or drinking glass.

Orders & Shipping

How long does shipping take?

Orders ship within 1–2 business days. Standard delivery is 3–7 business days. You will receive a tracking number by email when your order ships.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes — complimentary shipping on all orders over $63. Any order of three candles with the Build a Set discount automatically qualifies.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Contact us as soon as possible after placing your order. If it has not yet shipped, we can make changes. Use our Contact page with your order number.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently ship within the contiguous United States. International shipping is something we are working toward.

Returns & Refunds

What is your return policy?

We accept returns on unused, unopened items within 30 days of delivery. See our Shipping & Returns page for the full process.

My order arrived damaged. What do I do?

Please contact us within 7 days of delivery with a photo. We will send a replacement free of charge — no return required.
